What Is The Apartment Job About? (Spoiler-Free)

The Apartment Job (Korean title Apartment) is a crime comedy written by Kim Yoon-young and directed by Jo Yong-won. It aired on JTBC on Saturdays at 22:40 and Sundays at 22:30 (KST) from July 11 to August 16, 2026, for 12 episodes, and it is also on Netflix.

Ji Sung plays Park Hae-kang, a former gangster boss who runs for residents’ association president at a brand-new apartment complex, True Value, to get his hands on a huge hidden stash of cash. Ha Yoon-kyung plays Kang Ha-ri, an aspiring lawyer who gets pulled into his scheme. Park Byung-eun plays Lee Chung-won, the polished head of the construction company, and Moon So-ri plays Jang Suk-jin, the neighborhood busybody who turns out to be a very useful ally. What starts as a heist quickly turns into a fight against deep-rooted corruption.

It is a good pick if you like underdog comedies where scammers slowly become the good guys, and it comes from the writer of My Strange Hero. In Korea it was a Saturday-Sunday cable hit that stayed first in its time slot for every episode, averaging 5.361% nationwide, per Nielsen Korea figures on Wikipedia.

Spoiler warning: everything below reveals how the story ends.

Who Killed Park Yong-man?

Yong-man is the father figure Hae-kang is trying to save, and his death is the emotional turning point of the final stretch. According to the recaps, Chung-won visits him in the hospital, and Yong-man tells him that he is still the frightened little boy he once was. Unable to bear that, Chung-won switches off his medical equipment. Hae-kang arrives too late. At the funeral, Chung-won lets him know he was there when it happened, and that is when Hae-kang realizes his enemy killed the man he loved.

Did Lizard Betray Hae-kang?

Not really. When the team opens the boxes they believed held Chung-won’s money, they find only flyers, and CCTV seems to show Lizard walking away with one of Chung-won’s men. The team assumes he took the bribe. It is a trap: Chung-won was holding Lizard hostage and using his phone as bait. Hae-kang goes to the warehouse anyway, rescues him, and his crew beats Chung-won’s men.

How the Case Against Chung-won Closes In

Taesan comes under audit with a search warrant, and Chung-won begs the One Club members for help. Hae-kang gives a corrupt official copies of his own bribery records and asks for police cooperation in exchange for his silence. Police then storm Taegowon and find Mr. Son’s body, and news reports say a dozen bodies were found while a warrant is issued for Chung-won.

How Does The Apartment Job End?

Here is the finale step by step, based on The Review Geek’s episode 12 recap and K-waves and Beyond’s explainer:

  • The rooftop showdown: Chung-won takes Gyeong-buk, then calls Hae-kang to the roof, offers him 17.8 billion won and says they are the same because both of them want money. Hae-kang says he pities him, which is exactly what Yong-man said, and Chung-won confesses to killing Yong-man. Hae-kang does not kill him and takes the money.
  • The money goes back: The next morning the staff learn that Chung-won has turned himself in but the money is still missing. Then Hae-kang walks in with it, and Ms. Jang takes it to the bank.
  • The recording: Chung-won is questioned in public. Hae-kang and the team arrive in their old campaign jackets and play the recording of his confession. A nurse from earlier turns out to be Ha-ri, who planted a camera in his hospital room. The One Club members also face charges.
  • Goodbyes: Ha-ri and her sister Ha-jeong share an emotional moment. Ha-jeong and Mr. Choi go to confess their crimes. Hae-kang visits Yong-man’s grave and calls him father.
  • Three years later: Ha-jeong runs her dream bakery near True Value, Je-gil is back in school, Lizard has finished his sentence, and Hae-kang has opened Law Office Jeongsan with Ha-ri as a qualified lawyer. True Value gets its reserve fund back, and Hae-kang returns as the firm’s apartment corruption investigator to deal with a 600 million won penalty. It is their first case.

What the Ending Means

The finale closes the circle. Hae-kang arrived at True Value to take the apartment owners’ money and leaves as the person protecting it. Chung-won, meanwhile, loses because he believes everyone is motivated only by money. The Review Geek also notes the message that corruption takes years to clean up, which is why the story jumps three years ahead.

As for romance, the K-waves and Beyond recap says Hae-kang and Ha-ri do not become an official couple. They are close, supportive and work together, but the finale does not label them as a pair. A Hindustan Times headline mentions romance, so treat that part as open to interpretation.

Is There an Apartment Job Season 2?

No season 2 has been announced. The Review Geek reported in August that JTBC had not renewed the series, and Fiction Horizon described it as a limited series with no official renewal. Netflix lists it as a single season of 12 episodes.

FAQ

Does Hae-kang kill Chung-won?

No. Chung-won confesses to killing Yong-man on the rooftop, and Hae-kang attacks him but stops short of killing him. The confession is recorded, and Chung-won ends up facing prosecution.

Do Hae-kang and Ha-ri end up together?

Not officially. Three years later she is a lawyer working at his firm, and the finale shows them as close partners. The recaps I checked do not describe a confirmed romance.

Where can I watch The Apartment Job?

It is on Netflix, and its original broadcaster was JTBC in Korea. Availability can differ by country, so check your local Netflix catalog.

Final Verdict

The Apartment Job delivers a satisfying finale: the villain is exposed by his own words, the money goes home, and the main characters get a hopeful future. It is not a deeply romantic ending, but it is a warm one for fans of workplace-and-neighborhood underdog comedies, and it earned a 7.675% nationwide rating for the final episode, its highest.
