What Is Our Sticky Love About? (Spoiler-Free)

Our Sticky Love (Korean title 이런 엿 같은 사랑) follows Go Eun-sae (Ha Young), a prosecutor who wakes up in a rural hospital with no memory of who she is. Jang Tae-ha (Jung Hae-in), a former youth boxing champion who now coaches in the small town of Gujin, shows up and claims to be her boyfriend. With nobody else to turn to, she moves to his hometown, nicknamed Taffy Village because the locals make yeot, a traditional Korean sticky candy. The title is a pun on that candy, as the Korean wording can also work as slang.

It’s a 12-episode Netflix original written by Mo Ji-hye and directed by Kim Jang-han, who also directed My Demon. Heo Sung-tae plays the crime boss Baek Sang-gil, and the village is full of scene-stealing neighbors, including veteran actress Kim Young-ok as Tae-ha’s grandmother. According to Wikipedia, filming took place around Dangjin. You can stream it on Netflix, and it works best if you like amnesia romance mixed with a crime thread and a warm small-town cast, or if you enjoyed My Demon.

Spoiler warning: everything below reveals the full ending of Our Sticky Love.

Why Did Tae-ha Lie About Being Eun-sae’s Boyfriend?

The core twist is that Tae-ha is not her boyfriend. Per the recaps, he worked for Sang-gil’s organization and was given one last job: get rid of Eun-sae. Sang-gil’s men had already beaten her badly and burned off her fingerprints, which is how she lost her memory. When Tae-ha recognized her as his first love, he could not go through with it. He invented the boyfriend story to get her out of Seoul, where she would be in danger, and he asked the villagers to help him keep it going.

How and When Does Eun-sae Get Her Memory Back?

Yes, she remembers everything. Around the midpoint, Tae-ha tries to send her away for her own safety, and his associate Kaito (Lee Jun-young) puts her on a boat to Japan. From the water she watches Tae-ha face Sang-gil’s crew, then sees the fire and explosion Tae-ha sets off, and the shock brings her whole life back. She heads back to Seoul and uses the footage she had backed up to go after Sang-gil and the mayor, with High on Films reporting she seeks life imprisonment for Sang-gil.

Who Is Baek Sang-gil to Tae-ha?

The biggest reveal is that Sang-gil is Tae-ha’s biological father. Koimoi and Parade describe him as a former boxer who was expelled for cheating, drifted into the underworld and abandoned Tae-ha’s mother. That means Tae-ha spent years as his right-hand man without either of them knowing. Sang-gil only works it out late, after seeing baby pictures.

How Does Our Sticky Love End?

  • The escape: Sang-gil is arrested, but he gets free while being transported and goes to Taffy Village, taking Tae-ha’s grandmother hostage.
  • The village fights back: Tae-ha and his friends take on Sang-gil’s men, the village women join in, and Eun-sae brings the police, who arrest the goons.
  • Sang-gil’s last choice: Tae-ha chases him down and gets the gun, then Sang-gil takes it back. Remembering holding Tae-ha as a child, he shoots himself and dies without Tae-ha ever learning they were father and son.
  • The proposal: Tae-ha asks Eun-sae to marry him.
  • The wedding: The villagers all gather. When it starts raining, Tae-ha, who used to dread rain because of sad memories, embraces it, and everyone dances.

The side couple gets closure too: sources agree that An Gi-jun and Min Su-ji end up together, though they describe the moment a little differently, either a bouquet toss or a proposal. The recaps also differ on exactly how Sang-gil’s final standoff plays out, so I’ve kept to what they agree on.

What Does the Ending Mean?

The finale is about forgiving the lie and starting over. Eun-sae is angry at first that Tae-ha deceived her, but she understands why he did it, and by then she has fallen for the man she actually met in Gujin. Sang-gil’s suicide is read as his one act of redemption: he stops a cycle of violence that would have destroyed his son. The closing family photo of the couple with the villagers shows that Tae-ha has finally found the family he never had.

Is There an Our Sticky Love Season 2?

Not as far as I can verify. Netflix has not announced a second season, and The Review Geek lists it as not renewed. Since every major storyline is wrapped up, it reads as a complete one-season story.
