Dream to You ending explained: Joo Yi-jae and Woo Soo-bin do end up together, but only after two years apart and a breakup over a film fellowship in Canada. ENA’s 12-episode romantic comedy finished on August 18, 2026, and its finale is a more grown-up take on the first-love reunion than the first few episodes promised. Here is how it plays out, what Korean press made of it, and where the ratings landed.

The setup, without spoilers
Dream to You (그대에게 드림) aired on ENA on Mondays and Tuesdays at 22:00 KST, from July 13 to August 18, 2026. Yoo Sun-dong directed and Jung Eun-bi wrote it. Hwang In-youp plays Woo Soo-bin, a film director who returns to Korea after a big run at international festivals. Hyeri plays Joo Yi-jae, a reporter scraping by who has more or less forgotten what she once wanted. They meet again 15 years after their first love, and the show cuts between their teenage years and adulthood. The cast also includes Baek Sung-chul, Lee Yul-eum and Lee Sang-yeob.
Outside Korea, Soompi points viewers to Viki, and Wikipedia lists Viu in selected regions. In Korea it also streams on Genie TV. Availability changes by country, so check your own app before you plan a weekend around it.

Why Yi-jae and Soo-bin break up
Once the two finish their film together, Yi-jae realizes she wants to learn filmmaking properly. She feels shaky about having no formal training, so she applies to a film fellowship in Canada. Soo-bin is hurt, partly because she applied without talking it over with him. In the argument that follows, Yi-jae makes it clear that he is someone she loves, but he is not her dream. That is the line the whole ending hangs on. The point of the breakup is that she is choosing a path for herself this time, instead of building her life around his.
How the finale plays out
- Yi-jae is accepted into the program in Canada. Soo-bin apologizes for first trying to stop her just because he loved her, and gives her a screenplay called “Dream”, which holds both their love and their shared ambition.
- Without telling her, he has also written the recommendation letter that helped her get in. She only learns about it after she arrives in Canada.
- Soo-bin rushes toward the airport for one last try at a goodbye, but she is already gone. All he is left with is her hair tie, and he lets her go.
- Two years pass. He struggles without her. She builds her career abroad.
- Yi-jae comes back. Echoing how he greeted her 15 years earlier, she asks whether he has a girlfriend, and proposes making a film from his screenplay “Dream”.
- At a film festival, she wins a new director award for a film she made in Canada, and Soo-bin is the one who presents it. In her speech she explains that she endured the time abroad to become someone who could stand beside him.
- They put on matching rings and kiss. In the last image, “To You” has been added in front of “Dream” on the screenplay, with both their names, so the title becomes Dream to You.
Recaps differ on small details, such as how the proposal is staged and how much the airport scene shows. The shape of the ending is the same in every source I checked: she leaves by choice, he supports it, and they reunite as equals.
What happens to the other couples
| Character | Where they end up |
|---|---|
| Shim Yoo-geon (Baek Sung-chul) and Oh Ha-na (Lee Yul-eum) | Still together. Their relationship becomes public, and Yoo-geon hosts the film awards with Ha-na. |
| Seo In-wook (Lee Sang-yeob) and Choi Sa-rang (Lee Ji-min) | They run into each other again and reconnect. The recaps read it as a possible new start, not a confirmed couple. |
| Yi-jae’s mother (Park Myung-shin) | With both of her children settled on their own paths, she can finally run her shop with less worry. |
What Korean media made of it
The Korean coverage focused on the gap between the story and the numbers. TV Report (via Daum, August 19) noted that the finale averaged 2.3% nationwide, up 0.2 points from episode 11 but below the 2.7% premiere, and that the show never left the 2% range. It also recalled Hyeri’s promise at the press conference: if ratings passed 7%, she would hold a cinema screening with fans and share popcorn. That did not happen. The same article added the other side of the story: on Rakuten Viki, the drama ranked first in viewership in more than 100 countries for three weeks in a row.

The chart shows a quiet run. Episode 3 was the peak at 2.87%, episode 7 the low at 2.04%, and the series average was 2.43%. It was a cable channel, and Wikipedia notes that cable ratings are normally smaller than terrestrial ones, so these figures say more about ENA’s audience size than about quality.
English-language reaction was less settled. Leisurebyte called the finale too safe and questioned whether the two-year breakup was needed at all, while still praising Hyeri and Hwang In-youp. Papo de Dorama described it as a clear, happy ending with nothing left hanging.
Is there a Dream to You season 2?
I could not find any announcement of a second season as of October 21, 2026. The story is closed, and Papo de Dorama notes that the ending sets up no continuation. Treat any “season 2 theory” post as guesswork.
Is it worth watching?
If you want a second-chance romance where the leads keep their own careers, yes. The ending works because the separation has a reason, even if some viewers found it drawn out. If you came for a big, fast-paced romcom, the quiet pacing and a low-key finale may feel thin.
